Stanley K. Schlein (1948-) served as assistant Counsel to the Office of the Vice Chairman and Majority Leader of the New York City Council from 1978-1982. From around 1983-1984, Schlein was a special advisor to Mayor Koch. He held a seat on the New York City Civil Service Commission from 1982 and was appointed chairman from 2003 to 2006. The Civil Service Commission enforces civil service laws on hiring and firing. He received a Bachelor of Science, degree from New York University in 1969 and a Juris Doctor degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1972.
