Board of Estimate and Apportionment transcripts of minutes for 1926 to 1930

Accession ACC-1983-012. Unprocessed - RG 014. New York City Council

Description

The accession consists of carbon copies of typed transcripts of verbatim (stenographic?) minutes of Board of Estimate meetings. The latest DORIS schedule for Board of Estimate records (dated 1960) lists meeting transcripts for permanent retention at the Records Center. Though old control cards at the Record Center office indicate this was done, a preliminary search failed to turn up any prior to 1940. Since Chapter 3, Section 64 of the 1981 Charter requires that a full stenographic record of all public meetings of the Board be kept, this partial set of a few of the missing years is being kept as a hedge against the finding of the missing ones (circa 1900-1940, perhaps longer). The records include significant discussion and details that do not appear in the printed series of Board minutes (called Proceedings after 1934) which are merely summaries of what went on with full texts of relevant documents. This set of transcripts appears to be that of the Comptroller in his role as a member of the Board of Estimate. Arranged chronologically by meeting date.
