Legislative Representative to Washington, D.C., Patricia E. Harris subject files for 1976 to 1981
Description
The accession consists of correspondence, memoranda, staff notes, reports, press releases, and clippings (many photocopies - all categories) on federal legislation, federal grants, and a variety of other federally connected matters in which the City had a political or financial interest. Among the subjects included are the monitoring of new Panama Canal Treaty legislation regarding the raising of tolls and their effect on the Port of New York activity; the recurring problem of reimbursement for police protection of United Nations personnel; and such mundane matters as getting permission for a performance of the Navy’s Blue Angels aerobatic team over New York City. Many of the documents have notes or annotations by officials in one or another of the Mayor’s offices, as well as other City departments. The subject files, although pertaining to the Washington D.C. Office, were created and physically located in New York City in the office of their New York liaison, Patricia E. Harris. The exact role of this office and of Harris was not easily discernible during the accession-level examination but appeared to cover a wide variety of activities. A folder labelled "Recruitment 1979-1980" was removed from the correspondence files of ACC1983-020 (received concurrently) and placed in alphabetical order in Box 3 (file number 7). Arranged alphabetically.
