Assistant to the Deputy Mayor for Intergovernmental Relations, Patricia E. Harris correspondence files for 1978 to 1980
Description
The accession primarily consists of correspondence and memoranda, as well as some printed or photocopied attachments and handwritten notes generated from or received by Patricia E. Harris. Harris' title and function changed from 1978 to 1980. While serving as Assistant to Deputy Mayor for Intergovernmental Relations Ronay A. Menschel (1978) she dealt with the Bureau of the Budget and while serving as Assistant to Deputy Mayor for Intergovernmental Relations (1979) and Philip Trimble and Assistant to Deputy Mayor for Intergovernmental Relations Peter Piscitelli (1979-1980) she served as liaison to the Washington D.C. office. The correspondence for the period 1979-1980 deals largely with matters involving federal legislation and activity of interest to the City of New York, although more routine and local interests are also represented such as her close working relationship with the Commission on the Status of Women and involvement with the selection of its members. The two file folders of 1978 correspondence primarily concern financial matters. They seem to reflect Harris' dealings with the Bureau of the Budget as part of the stated function of the Deputy Mayor's office to sit on the Board of Estimate when the Mayor was absent. A folder titled "Recruitment 1979-1980" was removed and added to ACC1983-019. The original file for September 1980 also is missing (see note attached to packed of copies of outgoing letters from Koch, apparently drafted by Patricia Harris and forwarded for inclusion in her chronologic file). Arranged chronologically.
