Brooklyn Borough President geographic and subject correspondence files for 1963 to 1976
Description
The accession consists largely of correspondence (and attachments) sent and received by the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President during the Administrations of Abe Stark and Sebastian Leone. Also included are staff notes and memoranda; copies of Board of Estimate resolutions; and copies of proclamations, citations, and press releases issued by the Brooklyn Borough President's Office. Occasional newspaper clippings and photographs are included incidentally. Filing procedures of the Borough President's office will cause some difficulty for researchers. Note that many subjects (music, etc.) with any cultural orientation are filed under "Art." Also note that, generally, correspondence with absolutely no geographic orientation was forced into this largely geographic filing system (i.e. filed according to the return address of the correspondent, even though that location bears no relationship to the subject of the correspondence.) Some rearrangement of the file folders and correction of dates on folders was performed at the time of accession. Arranged alphabetically by subject of correspondence, by geographic site as subject of correspondence, or by return address of correspondent. There is one box of files arranged numerically by numbered street or avenue at the end.
