Brooklyn Borough Improvement Board minutes and stenographic transcriptions for 1968 to 1978

Description

The accession consists of minutes, typed stenographic transcriptions, memoranda, correspondence, staff notes, agendas, attendance and voting lists, and other records documenting the planning, holding, and follow-up to the meetings of what was called the Borough Improvement Board until 1976, thereafter the Borough Board (section 85a, 1976, New York City Charter). These records were maintained within the Office of the Director, Borough (Improvement) Board and include pre-planning notes, notes on the proceedings with recommendations for follow-up action (perhaps for the Borough President), and some later date miscellaneous folders, possibly misfiled. One housekeeping folder documents the decision to transcribe the proceedings stenographically from September 1974. The originals of most of the transcriptions are filed separately in Box 2 although copies are also included in the general minutes or meeting file along with other supporting or connected paperwork. The records provide background detail on major borough development programs and capital projects which could be of importance to researchers. The transcripts provide an additional dimension further fleshing out the actions of officials. Although the copies of the transcriptions in the meeting file were described as the “final edited version,” no differences were noted in a brief run-through during preliminary processing. The few miscellaneous folders were put at the end of the second box. They include materials dated 1977 and 1978, seemingly having no direct connection with the minute files. There are no minutes or transcriptions for the meetings of January 29, December 9, and December 29, 1975. There is no transcription for the meeting of October 28, 1974 and no minutes to match the transcription for January 29, 1976. Arranged chronologically by date of Board meeting.
