The accession consists of bound volumes of the New York World newspaper for the period of November 1860 to May 1880. Arranged chronologically.

Extent

29 cubic feet (65 volumes ) ; the average size of the volumes is about 23 x 16 inches with varying thicknesses of one to three inches.

  • The following volumes (36 volumes total, about 17 cubic feet) were disposed since we already have copies of them: 1863 February-April, May-August and September-December; all volumes for 1864-1871; 1872 January-April; and all volumes for 1876 plus volume for 1880 January-May. Cards for Card Catalog brought up-to-date and issues of the World heretofore noted as missing, now corrected. 65 volumes and 29 cubic feet added to Statistical Listing (at end of year, 36 volumes and 17 cubic feet will be subtracted). Appropriate figures noted on Destruction Listing.
