New York City Community Mental Health Board printed materials for 1954 to 1971

Description

The Department of Mental Health, Retardation and Alcoholism Services was established in 1970 to plan, contract, monitor, and evaluate all local mental health, retardation and alcoholism services. The Advisory Board, originally formed in 1954 as the New York City Community Mental Health Board, was a governing board with responsibilities for mental health services, headed by a Director. The Mental Health Board became an advisory board to the Department in 1970; the Director was replaced by a Commissioner. The accession consists of printed minutes, agendas, memoranda, reports, contracts, mailing lists, and ballots. The material was used to execute and document the Board's business. The records include material sent to members prior to meetings and supporting documents distributed at meetings. Additionally there are mail ballots sent and received to resolve board business between meetings. There is substantial duplicate material that should be removed before processing. Though the material dates from 1965 to 1976, there are gaps. Arranged chronologically.
