Magistrates' Court docket book indexes for Manhattan for 1916 to 1949


Description

The accession consists of bound volumes of handwritten entries indexing alphabetically, by defendant, cases in the New York City Magistrates' Court docket books for Manhattan. The entries in each annual index include: name of defendant, Magistrates' docket number, and trial date, usually by both month and day. Also included, variously, by jurisdiction, are Special Sessions docket numbers, and, rarely, other information on the case. The books are arranged by District Number or the special title of the court, and then chronologically: Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 10 (Night), 12, Adolescent, Bowery, Commercial Fraud, Felony, Gamblers', Homicide, Municipal Term, Probation, War Emergency, and Weekend. A number are missing, some of which exist on microfilm as part of Accession 2001-015 Indexes.
