Department of Health photographs circa 1940 to 1979


Description

The accession contains more than 23,000 images in several formats and sizes: 1x2, 2x3, 3x4, 5x7, 8x10, 35mm, negatives, prints, and contact sheets from 1940 to 1979 documenting the activities of the Department of Health. Images from the 1900s are copy negatives or prints used for the Centennial in 1966. The majority of images are negatives, except for the 8x10 inch prints and contact sheets. The accession is divided into four groups: Images arranged numerical and not attributed to a specific photographer; Images arranged with alphabetical letter representing surname of photographer and thereunder numerical; Prints (8x10) arranged by subject; and contact prints arranged by subject. Group 1 and 2 are housed in acidic envelopes; prints and negatives should be separated and placed in acid-free envelopes.
