Department of Environmental Protection photographs, negatives, and glass plate negatives circa 1929 to 1989

Description

The majority of this accession consists of approximately 1,000 black and white photographs and about 3,000 negatives. Included also are 142 glass plate negatives (with prints), some slides, contact negatives, and color prints. There are a few mounted photos of miscellaneous subjects and rolled photos in poor condition. The subjects covered in the files reflect different departments and city agencies but do refer to the areas that Department of Environmental Protection would be involved, such as, sewage, pure water, and air pollution. A set of fourteen, 8 x 10 inch black and white photos depicting 1920s scenes of New York City and Brooklyn have been given to Ken Cobb. The glass plate negatives and prints are of historic value. Many of the black and white photos have dates and identification and the collection is a valuable resource for street and building records. No apparent order. Some folders have subject headings. Mounted photos are in oversized boxes.
