Accession ACC-2003-011. Unprocessed - RG 096. Old Town records

Description

The accession consists of one 31 x 9 inch volume (347 pages) of minutes of the Board of Judges and Supervisors for the towns of Oyster Bay, North Hempstead, South Hempstead, Flushing, Jamaica, and Newtown. In addition, there are other entries such as schedules of state and county taxes for these communities, canvassing of ballots for elections of the Assembly, budgets, and examinations of accounts credited against the county, which include such examples as "to Joseph Petit, one of the Coroners, for 3 inquests, digging a grave, and a coffin, dollars 14." The numbers "517" and "Queens" stamped on the spine of the volume identify it as the earliest of a accession of eighteen Queens County minute books with which it has now been reunited. This accession was prepared from a 1992 appraisal by C. Matyas. Arranged chronologically.
