Ewart Guinier hearings subject files 1940 for to 1942
Description
The accession consists of transcripts of hearings, legal briefs, civil service test results, reports and other investigatory material, correspondence, memoranda, and clippings. The material was created and used for reference as part of an investigation and departmental trial by the Municipal Civil Service Commission and the Department of Investigation into the activities of Ewart Guinier, a Junior Civil Service Examiner. He was charged with unbecoming moral behavior and with irregularities in examining job applicants. It was purported, in news articles of the period contained in the accession, that he (and others connected to the charges) were being persecuted for left-wing activism. A small part of the records are covered in a wax like substance, but it is legible. Arranged alphabetically.
