City Council President Sanford D. Garelik commemorative paperweight circa 1970
Description
The accession consists of a commemorative paperweight commissioned for Sanford D. Garelik, President of the City Council from 1970 to 1974. It is made of Lucite and measures 5 1/4" wide, 3 3/8" tall and 1" thick. It encases two plastic or metal medallions. One is fashioned as the 1664 New York City Seal and reads on the verso "President City Council 1970." The second medallion reads "City of NY Police, Chief Inspector" on a background like the City Seal, reading on the verso "Sanford D. Garelik 1966-1969." It was transferred in 1993 to the Municipal Archives from the Papers of Samuel Lefrak, Queens real estate developer, in the Lefrak Organization Archives.
