Real Estate and Condemnation photographs circa 1930 to 1959
Description
The photographs document the buildings demolished for public purposes, such as highway construction. Included are buildings razed for construction of the Belt Parkway (originally called Circumferential Parkway), North Beach Airport (now La Guardia), and Interboro Parkway. While the bulk of the photos are of building exteriors, there are some which contain interior shots of businesses and private homes, showing furniture, equipment and in some cases, people at work. There is also some manuscript material, such as claimant's exhibits, pertaining to condemnation proceedings, stored in the last box. The records are divided into two sub-series: Sub-series I consists of approximately 200 albums containing 8"x10" black and white photos from ca. 1930 to circa 1950. There is an index; Sub-series II consists of 4"x5" black and white photos from the 1940s to 1950s. They document the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. Container list attached.
