Martense family papers for 1715 to 1857
Description
The Martense family were landowners in Kings County since the 1700s. The collection of papers was donated to St. Francis College (Brooklyn, New York, N.Y.) by John Duffield Prince, a descendant of the Martense Family. The Martense family papers consists of one oversize volume containing original handwritten documents and a few photocopies. The types of records include deeds, bonds, wills, mortgages, and records of sale of enslaved people. A few of the documents have been backed with silk in a process called French Veiling. Arranged numerically.
