New York Police Department Division of National Defense files on World War One military service of police personnel
Description
The material consists of forms, pay records, memoranda, and lists. The series documents the personnel who served in the Armed Forces during World War One and includes their pay and leave records and status during service. A set of three forms are principally utilized. On one the employee swears an oath to his military service, containing dates of that service and his police pay per month. A second lists the employee police rank and shield number, repeats his date of enlistment, notes status of pay during military service and other matters. A third notes the employee's appointment date to the department his military service dates, whether he enlisted with Department/Mayoral approval or not, his police salary for a certain period and the comparable military pay, and the difference between them. There are also separate Mayoral/Department memorandums of approval for leave for military service and lists of personnel in military service, This material may be part of Accession 1952-009.
