Annual Record of the Assessed Valuation in of Real Estate for Corporations and Special Franchises in Richmond County ledger books for 1899 to 1946

Accession ACC-1961-040. Unprocessed - RG 035. Department of Finance

Description

The accession consists of 11 volumes of the Annual Record of the Assessed Valuation of Real Estate of Corporations, 1899-1909; 29 volumes of the Annual Record of the Assessed Valuation of Real Estate of Corporations and Special Franchises, 1910-1939; and 4 volumes of the Annual Record of Assessed Valuation of Real Estate indicated by Identification Numbers and Special Franchises, 1942-1946. Although the titles of these volumes differ slightly, they are all part of the same series and type of tax record. All volumes except those for 1899, 1900 and 1901 are marked "Volume 1." The books themselves, however, appear to be complete; the designation "Volume 1" was the bookbinder's error.

Extent

6.5 cubic feet (44 volumes)

Dates

1899-1946

  • In 1957, we received another set of some of the above volumes, namely, those for 1912 through 1938-1939 and 1942-1943 through 1945-1946. Those for 1912 through 1938-1939 were labeled "duplicate." These we have now discarded and substituted the originals received in this Accession. The volumes for 1942-1943 through 1945-1946 were the original records and thus the duplicates which we received with this Accession were discarded. Altogether 31 volumes were discarded (circa 4 cubic feet). We were informed by the Manhattan Tax Office that duplicate copies of these tax volumes exist because they were maintained in the Manhattan Office for the convenience of many corporations existing in Richmond but having offices in Manhattan.
