Description

The Department of Public Parks was given the powers of the Commissioners of Central Park in 1871. These powers included the mapping of the Bronx west of the Bronx River. The Department was the predecessor of the Commissioners of Street Improvements of the 23rd and 24th Wards. This accession consists of a single bound volume of hand drawn maps of street and railroad grades. The maps also include explanatory remarks and certification by the President of the Board of Commissioners of Public Parks. The maps have been assigned field map numbers, but are not arranged in numeric order.
