Artificial collection of records relating to significant people and events
Description
Accession consists of documents that were separated from their original records series because of the nature of their value. Among the varied materials are letters, receipts, petitions, reports, resolutions, licenses, certificates, newspapers, checks, cargo and passenger lists, and legal documents, such as wills and deeds. Included also are photos, lithographs, and maps. Most of the documents were separated because they contained famous signatures, important information about events (draft riots, War of 1812), or unique information of form. There is a card index for the files which provides a brief description of the item, size, and the condition. Arrangement is alphabetical.
