Description

This accession is comprised of two volumes, approximately 16 x 11 x 3 inches, identified on the span as "Journal," (with inclusive dates) and, "Chamberlain's Office," which are bookkeeping records of daily financial transactions for the City of New York during the years spanned. Entries include land rent, water lot rent, ground rent, house rent, and ferry rent, followed usually by names of the renters. There are other entries for cash, for grocery rent, cash for the watch and lamp, cash for tavern license, city cash, poor house, powder magazine, tax for public roads, tax for tavern license, and entries for individuals such as John Branden, Joseph Griswold, James Debrosses, Peter Lourilliard [sic], and Cruger Van Dam. Arrangement of materials is chronological.
