This accession consists of, "County Expenditures Audit and Warrant Distribution of Account for Riot Damages," from the 1863 draft riots in New York City. The file contains the five page claim of Miss Helen E. Bates, sworn before James Davis, dated October 1863, describing her wardrobe, other personal articles, the costs of those items and requesting compensation, a letter dated July 13, 1863 from her brother, John L. Bates, corroborating his sister's, "loss of personal property by the rioters," a report of the claim by Arthur Eickhoff, suggesting compensation in the sum of $5989.60, and Miss Helen E. Bates' five page inventory of, "articles of personal property." There is no arrangement.
