Queens map Index

Accession ACC-1994-010. Unprocessed - RG 025. Department of Buildings

Description

Accession consists of 4 x 6 file cards identified as, "Map Pad," which is actually a map index. It contains 91 cards. On the cards, in alphabetical order, are entered names of individuals, streets, parks, railroads, transportation terminals, real estate companies, specific properties, institutions such as churches, hospitals, and schools, as well as airports, bridges, and cemeteries. Each entry is keyed to a three or four-digit number. Under an index guide, "Filed Maps," seven cards list a four-digit map number and a drawer number for filing. The subject of the map is both preceded and followed by calendar dates as shown in the following example: "4/29/18, City line lots No. 2 (4) May 29, 1915, No. 2285, Drawer 72," "12/17/18, A. Frank Wilson Evergreen (2) May 28, 1915, No. 2286, Drawer 72," and "10/29/18, Sim and Greig, Inc. 65 lots (4) June 23, 1915, No. 2976, Drawer 72." Under an index guide, "Turnpike and Plank Roads," 11 cards list 10 plank road companies and one turnpike company, all established in the mid-nineteenth century. The Municipal Archives does not hold the records to which this index belongs. It is unknown where the records might exist. Alphabetical and numerical.
