Town of Yonkers assessed valuation of real estate volumes for 1843 to 1844
Description
The books were given to the City Clerk of Yonkers in 1969 by Dr. Kellerman, a local architectural historian, when she was researching the history of Wave Hill in the Bronx. The two items were found in a train shed where old records were stored. The first is a ledger book titled, "Assessment Roll, 1843 and 1844", Town of Yonkers, Westchester Co., 6.5 x 8 inches. Persons whose property was assessed are listed alphabetically. Entries for names are as follows: acreage, cash value, personal property, total, and dogs. Town of Yonkers became the 24th Ward of New York City after annexation from Westchester in1873 and the Bronx in 1898. The second is a ledger book titled, "Assessment..Town of Yonkers..1853", 40 pages, 6.5 x 8 inches. Entries for names are as follows: names, acreage, value of land, personal property, total, dogs, and tax amount.
