Department of Plant and Structures Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge construction and repair photographs from 1902 to 1968

Description

This accession consists of 8 x 10 inch black and white photographs, created to document department operations, particularly the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridge Section. Roughy half of the images were originally part of five photo albums, each photo mounted on an unbound page and including the date. Four of the five albums concerned the construction of the Manhattan Bridge and additional work on the Brooklyn Bridge between 1907 and 1914. The fifth album contained images from the Brooklyn Bridge elevated station, taken between 1934 and 1935. Other images (less than one cubic foot) are cyanotypes of the construction of the Manhattan Bridge, circa 1908-1917. Most have dates and identification. Some images (one cubic foot) are in sets, including 1944 and 1947 work on the Brooklyn Bridge, 1935-1937 work on the Manhattan Bridge, and individual images of other bridges, streets, and public buildings.
