Description

The Bureau of Franchises was part of the Board of Estimate from 1905 to 1990, subsequently transferred by the City Charter of 1990 to the jurisdiction of the Department of Transportation. This accession consists of correspondence and memoranda, which includes incoming and outgoing correspondence on matters concerning granting and operating franchises. It is arranged alphabetically by correspondent's surname, or name of institution, in approximately five to fifteen year increments. The records include correspondence from city agencies, institutions, civic organizations, and the general public, as well as inquiries from other municipalities. They are housed in letter boxes and arranged with alphabetical dividers.
