Description

The accession consists of one photograph album. There is little direct evidence of its provenance. It provenance is surmised on the basis of one aspect of its content having to do with street widening and public works, circa 1915, that was the responsibility of the Borough President's Offices. An inscription on the verso of the first photo plate, "NYC Excess Condemnation," may indicate another provenance, involving property condemnations records and/or photos of properties as per Accessions 1988-065, Corporation Counsel, and 1998-005, Supreme Court, respectively. The album is cloth bound, containing nine 5 x 7 inch black-and-white photos mounted on the left side of a heavy board and the right side contains a property map of the are depicted in the photo. The photos are captioned in the following the format (as an example): "Block 56 - East Side of West Broadway between Barclay and Vesey Streets - Widened 1894 - Photographed 1915." The properties are all below 14th Street in Manhattan. The enclosure, boards, and photographs are all in good condition.
