Traffic safety films circa 1965 to 1995

Description

The Department of Traffic became part of the Transportation Administration (later the Department of Transportation) in 1969. By the early 1990s a Safety Education Office had been formed under the aegis of the Department's Commissioner. The accession consists of 16mm film and videotapes. The films include multiple copies and versions of a well-known Public Service Announcement (PSA) "Don't cross the street in the middle of the block" and another PSA "Jungle jingle." There are several longer pedestrian safety films and a 1990 videotape copy of one of them and the PSAs. There are also four copies of a videotape about a bridge reconstruction on Staten Island, which may have been made by the Bridge Maintenance, Inspections and Operations Bureau. An item list has been prepared of the material.
