New York Transit Commission photograph album circa 1913 to 1922


Description

The New York Transit Commission was a New York State appointed regulatory body for the pre-City operated private rapid transit system. The accession consists of one photograph album titled "Photographs Showing Construction of the Rapid Transit Subway and Elevated Lines of NYC, USA." It was published in 1922 by the Commission and printed by Alfred Brady of Hudson Street, New York, New York. It consists of twenty-seven plates, many are individually dated, that include separate captions on the facing pages. A photographer is cited for one photograph, Ned Van Buren. One plate is a bird's-eye view map and one a drawing, the remaining plates are photographs. The preface includes: "The following photographs have been selected to indicate some of the many phases of Rapid Transit Construction. The photographs are part of our construction record files, and were originally taken to show progress of work." The volume is in excellent condition. The photographs are mounted on cloth and are interleaved with tissue.
