Mary P. Nichols WNYC subject files and reports for 1998 to 1991
Description
Mary Perot Nichols (d. 1996) served twice as president of what is now WNYC; first when it was operated by the City of New York as the Municipal Broadcasting System (1938-1989?) and again after the name was changed to WNYC Communications Group in 1989. She was first appointed in the role in 1978 by Mayor Edward I. Koch. The accession consists of correspondence, memoranda, notes, printed material, clippings, and reports. There are two large subject files, one containing information on controversies surrounding programming on the Kwitny Report and another on programming on the Holocaust, particularly Anne Frank. The reports are on leasing airtime to other broadcasters and to the Mayor's Office on overall management of cable television systems in New York City. There are also WNYC lease files in 2006-040.
