New York City bridges photograph albums circa 1898 to 1935

Accession ACC-2005-097. Unprocessed

Description

The accession consists of photograph albums containing black and white photographic prints. They were used by the Department of Plant and Structures, and its predecessor agencies with responsibilities for bridge and elevated structures' construction and maintenance, to document its work. The prints, mounted on binder paper in the albums, were made from glass plate negatives (numbers are marked on the photos) in the collection, as was the related group of bridge photographs in Accession 1987-020 and other prints in the collection. Information from the negatives adds to the descriptive information and dating found for most of the individual prints. The prints are not in negative number order within the albums. The albums bindings' are in poor condition, the binder paper is brittle, though the images are mostly intact and in fair condition. Some photos are marked with a Department of Transportation number similar to Appraisal 2005-085. There are about twenty albums and 2500 individual prints. There is an item-level inventory of the images. Arranged numerically.
