Police Department evidence photographs circa 1921 to 1938
Description
The material consists of forty-one black and white photographic prints and twenty negatives. The prints are in 6x8 and 8x10 inch formats, the negatives are 6x8 and 8x10 inches. They are all apparently evidence photographs. Two sets of prints show apparent homicides; one set of prints an automobile seized as evidence (on order of District Attorney Thomas Dewey) in 1938; one set of prints is of a subway accident in 1921; and one set of prints a stairwell in an unidentified building. The 6x8 inch photos of are particularly fragile and some are fragments of an image. There are a few duplicates of the 8x10 inch prints of the seized automobile. All the negatives are to a number of the prints. There is some descriptive identification, sometimes including dates and identifying numbers, although the numbers establish no order among the photographs.
