Description

The accession is divided into 5 series. Series I. Photographic files (38 cubic feet): 8 X 10 inch prints, mounted on cloth, and placed in envelopes with negatives (5 x 7 or 8 x 10 inches). The envelopes and the majority of prints are numbered. There is both a subject/topic index and a geographic index to this series which provides access. Series II. Panoramic photographs (4 cubic feet): 10 X 20 inch prints with negatives. Identified on the envelope but there is no index. Series III. Glass plate negatives (60 negatives): 8 X 10 inch glass plate negatives. They are inventoried and arranged under the following subjects: Buildings (Chuches, Commercial Buildings, Forest Hills Gardens, and Public Buildings); Events and People; Construction; and Bridges. [A handwritten addition to the inventory for this series indicates that another negative was found belonging to it, thus making the extent 61 negatives.] Series IV. Lantern slides (169 slides): 3 x 4 inch lantern slides capturing various events and subjects, such as a parade for the centennial of George Washington's inauguration, Army maneuvers circa 1900, and war aircraft planes identified by type. Series V. Photograph binders (7 volumes): The first three binders contain 8 x 10 inch, black and white photographic prints mounted on cloth. They are titled "Queens Boulevard," 1923; "Old Flushing," circa 1900; and "World's Fair," 1939. The cover for the "World's Fair" binder is missing. The other four binders are slim in size. They contain 8 x 10 inch photographic prints which are fading and are titled: "Nassau Boulevard," 1926; "Snow and Sand Conditions," 1926; "Flood Conditions," 1926; and "Miscellaneous," 1926, which is mainly construction photos from 1926-1930. Also included in this series are an assortment of loose 8 x 10 photographs mounted on cloth and apparently part of another binder at some point.
