Department of Transportation executive records for 1967 to 2000


Description

These records consist of material created by executives (Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Acting Commissioner, and Administrators) of the Department of Transportation and its predecessor agencies, the Transportation Administration and the Department of Highways. Primarily, the records consist of memos, internal reports, and correspondence. There are also a small number of contracts and plans among the files. Some boxes contain published reports produced by other agencies in addition to those created by the Department of Transportation (and its predecessors). The records document the daily operations and decision-making processes of the executive staff of the agency, as well as building projects and proposals.


Access to Unprocessed Archival Collections

Unprocessed collections may include protected information related to personal privacy, health information, and minors, as well as attorney-client privilege. In accordance with laws and regulations, this material will be reviewed prior to providing public access and certain records may be subject to redaction or other measures that restrict access. Archival and library collections may also be restricted or limited based on physical condition, technical requirements, or format.
