Civil Service job classification questionnaires and correspondence circa 1938 to 1940
Description
The Municipal Civil Service Commission became part of the newly created Department of Personnel in 1954. The records were maintained by the Bureau of Investigations, Classifications, and Compensation subsequently. The Department briefly became a division in Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) in the mid-1990s until becoming the Department of Employment. The accession consists of questionnaires and correspondence used to create job descriptions for Civil Service titles and to reclassify employees based on their job duties. The questionnaires were used to elicit information from individual workers, and their supervisors, about the nature of their jobs. The correspondence mainly consists of replies to workers regarding changes in title. Much of the material concerns the Department of Hospitals. Arranged alphabetically.
