Subject files on civilian defense activities by New York City agencies

Description

The material consists of correspondence, reports, and printed materials. According to accompanying material, the Priorities and Allocation Board (that was part of the Civil Defense Volunteer Office) had responsibility for coordinating New York City agencies' participation in World War II civilian defense. Rebecca Rankin, Chief Librarian of the Municipal Reference Library, solicited the material from the Board and from agencies directly, as well as maintained material that was sent to the Municipal Reference Library. The printed materials comprise a substantial number of mimeographed and printed guidelines, brochures, and other material. The material is related to subject files and other material in the La Guardia Administration record group containing World War II civilian defense material. Arranged alphabetically.
