Pre-Consolidation vouchers for circa 1807 to 1833

Accession ACC-1991-036. Unprocessed - RG 035. Department of Finance

Description

This accession consists of vouchers and receipts for suppliers and services rendered to New York City and other pre-consolidation municipalities. Each voucher lists the relevant agency and its expenditures for a particular project (e.g. money paid from the Aqueduct Commission to an individual for tool sharpening). The vouchers do have numerical identifiers but there is no extant index.

  • The high degree of difficulty in actually using the records for research coupled with the paucity of information has resulted in a large volume of material with a low research value. The aggregate records available in our collection can provide the same information with a smaller footprint. That said, our aggregate records are scant for the years 1780-1830. We recommend retaining the vouchers from the latter time period, which would amount to approximately six cubic feet, and deaccessioning the rest.
