Department of Homeless Services Commissioner Gordon Campbell chronological correspondence for 1996 to 1997


Description

Originally a division of the New York City Human Resources Administration, the Office for Homeless and Single Room Occupancy Housing Services was established in 1986. It then became the Department of Homeless Services in 1993 when it was became a separate New York City agency. One of the agency's functions was to provide temporary emergency shelter for eligible homeless people in partnership with public and private agencies. Gordon Campbell became Commissioner in late-1996. The accession consists of correspondence, memoranda, routing slips, and some attachments of reports and printed material. The correspondence is with the heads of other agencies, the Mayor and other government officials, public and private social service agencies, clients of the Agency, and the general public. Most of the correspondence is outgoing and routing slips appear to indicate staff members who have reviewed correspondence. The accession was part of RM (records management) series number 20276, Commissioner's subject files. It was divided into separate series based on each commissioner's tenure. Arranged chronologically.
