Department of Parks and Recreation Commissioner Henry J. Stern invitations for 1994 to 2002
Description
Henry J. Stern served as Commissioner of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation during the Koch Administration, 1983-1990. He was reappointed to this position by Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani in 1994 and served as Commissioner until the end of the Giuliani Administration in February 2002. The accession consists of invitations and routing sheets. The invitations were sent to the Commissioner to attend various meetings, conferences, and events given mostly by organizations with interests and purposes related to the Agency's mission concerning parks and recreation, land use, and environmental conservation. Many invitations had a distinctly neighborhood interest. They are usually noted by an attached routing sheet as whether accepted or rejected; the routing sheets also indicate whether Stern was asked to give a speech or remarks or if he would be presenting a citation or an award on behalf of the Department of Parks and Recreation. The invitations are filed in approximate chronological order by the date received. There are some invitations from 2002 to Stern's successor as Commissioner, Adrian Benepe. Arranged chronologically.
