Record Groups
- This material was originally given by City Council to the La Guardia Wagner archives. According to the documentation existing from that time, La Guardia Wagner then gave some of this original donation to us, retaining samples for their own use. La Guardia Wagner staff assigned record series numbers to this material and filled out a disposal application on the City Council's behalf. In 2013, when our staff received the material, it was deemed archival by our staff. We are reappraising it now in light of the fact that La Guardia Wagner had deemed it suitable for discarding and because we perceive that there may have been errors in the assignation of record series from the retention schedule due to the fact that the donating agency did not assign them at the time of the original donation to LaGW. This body of records consists of material from disparate sources without a coherent sense of purpose. There are memos and reports documenting administrative activities, as well as some research files on cultural institutions in the city. These research files largely consist of published promotional material generated by the cultural institutions being researched. Also included are bound copies of the New York City administrative code, which is duplicative to material in the Municipal Library. The original accession description calls these materials subject files, however there is no indication that the material was actually generated by the same office or even the same division.
