Department of Parks and Recreation Commissioner Henry J. Stern issue mail for 1984 to 1987

Description

Henry J. Stern served as Commissioner of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation during the Koch Administration, 1983-1990. He was reappointed to this position by Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani in 1994 and served as Commissioner until the end of the Giuliani Administration in February 2002. The accession consists of constituent correspondence to the Commissioner of the Department of Parks and Recreation (and some referred by the Mayor), often received in substantial quantities on certain issues, which focus on a specific subject or issue concerning Department of Parks and Recreation facilities, operations, regulations, and other subjects. Because of the high volume of mail in some instances, form replies were used. Individual replies or form replies are attached to all incoming correspondence. Some incoming letters having routing sheets attached to them indicating to whom intra-agency copies were sent. Additionally, the routing sheets sometimes have instructions sent to appropriate staff to follow or rectify issues raised by correspondents. The correspondence is arranged chronologically and thereunder alphabetically by subject.
