Sandra D. O'Connor collection of War Commission invitations

Accession ACC-2018-019. Unprocessed - MSS. MSS papers and collections

Description

The United States entered World War I in 1917. Commissions from Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Belgium, and Japan were convened in New York City in order to coordinate the war effort. From May to September 2017 Mayor John Mitchel and his Reception Committee held dinners and meetings with representatives from each country. The records include six invitations to meetings with the these foreign commissions, and three invitations to dinner with the Italian, Japanese, and combined British and French commissions. Though none of the invitations are personalized, they may have belonged to Thomas Dunbar Green, a hotelier and recipient of the Belgian and Italian Order of the Crown, and the Chevalier of the Legion of Honor from France.
