Potter's Field (Hart Island) burial records for 1881-1985
Description
The accession for Potter's Field consists of bound volumes which contain the following information: number of the grave, burial permit, name, age, date of burial permit, birthplace and how long in the country (available for a few of the early years), date of death, cause of death, signature of certificate, place of death, date of burial, and remarks. Within this series is sub-series Disinterments Registers. These bound volumes contain the requests for disinterments. There was a fire in the Records Building on Hart Island and some volumes were destroyed. There are gaps in some of the information from 1962 through 1974.
