Scroll given to Commissioner George J. Rios in 1995 from the Chief Archivist of Shanghai Pudong, China


Description

George J. Rios was appointed as Commissioner of the Department of Records and Information Services in 1994. The material consists of a watercolor scroll and accompanying correspondence. Archivists from the People's Republic of China had been regularly visiting the New York City Municipal Archives for around fifteen years for the purpose of professional information exchange. The correspondence is between Commissioner George J. Rios, Baoxing Zhang (the Chief Archivist from China), and a representative in New York City, George Liu. The Chinese archivist brought a gift of a water color scroll of two birds and photocopies of historical material from their archives.
