Board of Estimate calendar papers for 1932 to 1943, 1950 to 1986
Description
The Board of Estimate was New York City's chief financial and decision making body. It existed pre-consolidation until 1990, when it was abolished as being unconstitutional in its representation and powers. The accession consists of correspondence, memoranda, reports, resolutions, printed material, maps, drawings, and site plans. The material concerns proposals or items that needed Board of Estimate approval known as a "calendar item" referring to its scheduling by the Board for approval. The printed material is primarily printed copies of the calendar items. The maps, drawings, and site plans pertain to project proposals to be reviewed and approved. Calendar items were reviewed at hearings and were either approved; disapproved; disapproved, amended, and approved; or amended and carried over to the next Board meeting. The records are arranged chronologically and then by a calendar number. There are gaps after 1964, with the few years having substantially less material than earlier years. The material is related to Accessions 2009-003 and 2009-008.
