Description
The accession consists of correspondence, memoranda, and reports. The Municipal Civil Service Commission itself was abolished in 1954 and incorporated into the newly Department of Personnel, City Civil Service Commission (1954-1989). In 1989 it was again changed to Civil Service Commission of the City of New York (1989-present). Municipal Civil Service Commission recruited, examined, and appointed personnel to Civil Service titles and jobs in the City of New York, among other personnel functions. The President, the Commission Secretary, and the Director of the Personnel Department, whose records are all included in this accession, used the material to set policy and conduct Commission and Department operations. Paul Brennan served as President. Correspondence is interdepartmental, as well as to and from City agencies, the New York State Civil Service Commission, and entities representing Civil Service employees by profession.
