Description

Under the Manhattan Borough President's jurisdiction during this period (1940s-1960s) was a unit called Borough Works, which had much of the responsibilities of the New York City Department of Public Works at borough level. The material consists of correspondence, memoranda, reports, printed material, and financial records, as well as architectural drawings, site plans, and related material. Borough Works engineers used the material to plan and help administer construction, renovation, and maintenance of borough buildings and infrastructure. There is also correspondence copied to the Office between the Manhattan Borough President and the Borough Works and the Mayor's Office, Board of Estimate, and City agencies doing related work. Some material is not foldered. There is a handwritten folder-level inventory of the accession. Arranged alphabetically.
