Office of the Coroner death records for the Bronx for 1911 to 1917

Description

The accession consists of death certificates, inquests, police reports, and notices from undertakers claiming bodies for the Bronx, 1911-1917. The Coroner's Office in each borough reviewed cases of death of persons who died from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, when unattended by a physician, or in a suspicious or unusual manner. The Office conducted a brief inquest and issued a Notice of Death certificate that included the name of deceased; date, place, and cause of death; other vital information such as age, birthplace, and name of parents; and the disposition of the deceased at the time the Death Notice was issued. The materials are foldered and in good condition but the folders are highly embrittled. Arranged numerically.
