Quarterly reports filed to the Mayor by the Borough Presidents for 1915 to 1962

Description

The accession consists of quarterly reports that were required to be filed with the Mayor's office by each Borough President. The reports detail operations carried out by units under the respective Borough Presidents. The majority of activities under the jurisdiction of the Borough Presidents during this period concerned local infrastructure with units such as the Chief Engineer, Requisitions and Supplies, Highway Design, Sewer Design, and Street Plan Records activities making up the bulk of the reports. Statistical information on physical or office work done by each unit was the chief component of the reports. Some fiscal data on Borough expenditures was also reported. Represented are Brooklyn, 1938-1962; Richmond (Staten Island), 1915-1931; and Queens, 1946-1953. Most of the reports are foldered but a few are semi-bound. Note from AMH, 2017 December 14: The contents of this accession were previously accessioned as Accessions 1963-046, 1963-047, 1963-048. It appears that in 2009 a large amount of accessioned material (received and originally accessioned during the 1960s) was accessioned again by mistake. Duplicate accessions tend to be ones that were not processed or only processed partially and, as such, were still housed in their original brown cartons, distinguishable by a legacy label bearing our previous name - Municipal Archives and Reference Center - and a four-digit location [box] number. It is important to note that if an accession was partially processed, the duplicate 2009 accession might only describe the remaining, unprocessed part. Arranged chronologically.
