Mayoral letterbooks of outgoing correspondence from 1834 to 1934
Description
The accession consists of outgoing Mayoral correspondence, beginning with Mayor Cornelius Lawrence and ending with Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia, bound in letterpress books. Some volumes contain an alphabetical index by surname. The letters were hard bound (or more likely, rebound) by the Municipal Archives and imprinted with the contents on the spine. There are approximately 160 volumes, with some volumes having as many as 950 pages. In some cases, not all of the pages were used. The paper is thin but in good condition, as are most of the bindings. Though the material dates from 1834-1934, there are gaps. Arranged chronologically.
